Today we are bringing you Part 2 of our Lake Home Tour which is all about our Kitchen! If you missed Part 1- the living room tour- CLICK HERE.
If you read Part 1 you’d know that when we bought our lake home it was decorated very old world style and that our mission was to make a few cosmetic changes to make it fit our style and brighten up the space.
So let’s just dive into the before pictures!
As you can see the kitchen had honey colored cabinets, a dark slate back splash behind the stove, and old world style light fixtures. Not to hate on old world but it was just too formal for this lake home where we wanted a casual, relaxed cottage vibe. We lived with it this way for awhile but then decided to make some changes.
We first started with the island because well frankly, getting cabinets painted is expensive and at first we didn’t mind the cabinetry as it was still in beautiful condition. We thought that painting just the island could be a fun pop.
After living with the white island for a summer or two we decided that we really did want all the cabinetry white so we bit the bullet and hired a painter to paint all the cabinets to match the existing trim work. The color is a custom mix but very similar to Pure white by Sherwin Williams. This was transforming!
We also had the slate backsplash removed and had white subway tile installed. This really helped brighten up the space and brought the look together.
As for the light fixtures we switched out the island pendant lights, the chandelier above the kitchen table and the chandelier above the dinning table (linked below).
When we moved in the walls were painted yellow, and we lived with it for a few years but once we painted the kitchen cabinets and saw how transforming it was, we knew that it was time for the yellow walls to go. We ended up painting the main floor (besides the bedrooms) white aka Sherwin Williams in “Natural Choice” and we instantly fell in love.
Here is what it looks like today!
As you can see we made fairly simple cosmetic changes and it looks like a completely different space! The kitchen was the room that had the most cosmetic work done to it and we love how it turned out.
We spend the most time in the kitchen, whether its hanging out and cooking with the family or entertaining guests. We wanted this kitchen to make a statement and with a little bit of paint, subway tile and a few new light fixtures it does just that!
Thank you so much for reading we hoped you enjoyed this post and got some inspiration! Please don’t forget to subscribe to our blog to stay up to speed on the rest of the Lake Home Tour and other upcoming posts!
