Hi Friends! If you are coming over from Dwellings by Devore, welcome! So happy to have you here. If you are new here you should know that we are a mother daughter blogging team and today we are talking all about Lacey’s mini style makeover in her living room!
If you are anything like me you love a ton of different styles when it comes to home decor and love to mix these styles together. However, l have been a bit unhappy with my decor styling lately. I realized that the reason for my dissatisfaction may be because I have strayed away from the style that I have always loved which is that effortless vintage French Parisian style. In beginning of the year I transformed my living to look very modern boho and while I do love this style I felt it was time to go back to what I love most…
I’ve been looking back at old Country Home Living books, French magazines and even pictures of my shabby chic childhood bedroom and I felt inspired to go back to my roots…FRENCH!
Here is what my living room looked like as modern boho. It had a lot of greens, woven textures, and wood and gold accents. To see the whole styling of my modern boho living room click HERE.
This look is absolutely beautiful but I was ready for a change and like I said I wanted to go back to the style I love most!
One thing I set out to do was clear out any accessories that didn’t fit in with the look I was trying to achieve i.e. anything too rustic farmhouse or too boho/modern. While I love mixing these styles together some of these things just had to go!
SO HERE WE GO…!
In my front foyer I didn’t have to change much as I already had this vintage mirror and French provincial style buffet.
And here is my chic French style living room!! I am in love!
I switched out my living room rug for the rug that was in my bedroom. The rug I had here could still totally work in this room but my bedroom rug just screamed vintage Parisian! Luckily my bedroom is grey and white so the living room rug looks great in there as well.
TIP: Keeping your home similar color tones from room to room means you can shop your own home for when you are in the mood for a refresh!
The next thing I switched out was my coffee table. Even though I really love my reclaimed wood table I decided to switch things up a bit and temporarily replace it for this antique french looking coffee table I found for 68 bucks at an antique store!
This coffee table is a dark charcoal gray color with distressed gold legs! I found it charming and unique and it just spoke to me! The dark color gives the room a more Parisian glamorous vibe.
To pull this room together I decided to paint my cane back chairs that were my grandmothers. It was my plan all along to paint them but the wood color ended up looking good with my boho vibe. Once I switched the rug and coffee table I knew it was the time to paint. The wood just did not go anymore!
To paint these I simply sanded them down and then spray painted them with Rustoleum satin white paint. Then I added a dark glaze to give them a more antiqued look since the white was a tad bright for my liking.
After those main changes were made I switched out a few accessories that I already had to complete the look! I changed up the pillows, table accessories, art work and added a gold fold table that acts as a bar cart- it was only $27on clearance at Hobby Lobby!
The black and white french girl painting was originally from Homegoods and I had it in my bedroom at my mom’s house back when I was in college. My mom was no longer using it in my bedroom and I thought it would bring an element of sophistication and glam to the room!
Once we put this painting on the mantle the room transformed before our very eyes! We were in LOVE! Plus adding a pop of pink peonies was oh so French!
I truly love how this living room style switch up turned out. I love the mix between the Parisian glam and french cottage vibes. Anything French is so endearing and magical to me. As a child I loved the femininity of the french style and after going to Paris in 2014 it made me fall more in love with the simple and sophisticated Parisian lifestyle.
I can often get caught up in the trends and I often want to switch up my style but no matter what I will always love a french glamorous vintage look. I feel this style portrays my personality and just makes me the happiest! This style really gives me that cozy and magical home feeling that you just can’t beat!
